The robes have been donned. The candles have been lit. The circle has been formed, the ancient words spoken. Here in the dark and damp, in this secret underground cavern, one more member is admitted to StopBadware’s society of the malware-crushing elite. Tonight, it is Malwarebytes.
Like all the Partners before them, Malwarebytes cements its place in the circle with a sacrificial battle: while the rest of the hooded StopBadwareans look on, Malwarebytes tosses a snarling malware sample into the center of the circle. Shining sword held high, Malwarebytes steps into the circle and faces its prey. Each competitor stares, transfixed, into the eyes of his enemy. The malware lunges, smoke-like tentacles lashing out and then evaporating as quickly as they appeared. For a moment, Malwarebytes remains motionless...then the sword flashes and strikes. The malware squeals as it scrambles to evade the blow, but it cannot escape: the sword stills on the cracked stones and the circle looks on in approval as Malwarebytes vanquishes its foe.
The cavern moves from silence to raucous cheering in the space of a moment. Hoods are thrown back, hands extended to welcome their new brother. Malwarebytes is borne along the moss-covered tunnels on the shoulders of security brethren. What a battle. What a night. Stories of badware defeated and users protected ring out until the wee hours of the morning. When the dawn comes, the members of the circle return to bright offices, to computers and coffee and standing workstations. They return to their lives above ground, but they cannot return to solitude. No, they are part of the sacred circle, and that circle is now one stronger.
