Regaining Control of Our Computers

Why does badware exist?

As in many aspects of life, money is the driving force behind most badware. By collecting and selling personal information, showing advertisements, and tracking user activity, badware companies are able to turn a profit at the expense of the user.

Every time you click on a pop-up from a badware application, or a company sells information about your browsing habits, they make a profit. The more computers that are infected with a piece of badware, the more money a badware distributor can make. That is where StopBadware.org comes in. We hope that by educating users to prevent and remove malicious software, we can help reduce the extent to which this is a viable business model.

For more information about the badware business model, we recommend reading "The Hidden Money Trail" at PCWorld.com.

If you are concerned that you may have downloaded badware, read about how to get rid of it.
