StopBadware.org tests and evaluates applications that come to our attention as potentially exhibiting badware behaviors. If we find that an application violates our guidelines, we issue an alert to notify the public. In some cases, we follow an alert with a more detailed report to shed additional light on the application and its behavior.
Over time, a software producer may release new versions of the application that address the badware issues we identified in earlier versions, or the application may cease to be widely available or widely installed. When we feel that the badware version(s) of an application are no longer prevalent, we mark the alert as inactive, and we move it into our archive.
The absence of an active alert does not necessarily mean that an application complies with StopBadware’s guidelines. It means that we have not tested the application or that we have not found badware behavior in the version(s) of the application that we have tested. It is, unfortunately, not possible for us to comprehensively test every application. That is why we need your help in reporting applications that you believe to be badware. If you are concerned that you may have downloaded badware, read about how to remove it.
