There are number of ways that you can help fight the spread of badware on the internet. The first step is to protect yourself: be a conscientious browser, keep your computer’s anti-virus and anti-spyware software up to date, and think carefully before installing any software on your computer. You can also help StopBadware, regulatory agencies, and security companies fight badware, regardless of your level of technical skill.
Report Badware
- Tell us your story: Has your computer been infected? Did one of your favorite websites get hacked and begin distributing badware? Help us conduct our research by letting us know what you have experienced.
- Tell the FTC: If you’ve encountered badware that is being distributed in the United States, you can report it to the Federal Trade Commission. The FTC has the power to fine and even shut down companies that distribute badware.
- Tell econsumer.gov: If the badware you’ve encountered is being distributed internationally, you can report it to econsumer.gov, a joint project of government protection agencies from 21 countries.
